In the States some bargains can be found, but when
I bought a bottle of Kweichow Moutai for about half list
in a Chinese liquor store in Queens, it turned out to
    be counterfeit.
Buyer beware. Any telltale signs before opening the bottle...?

If there had been, I'd have been put off; okay, I should
have been more careful anyway. You've seen the bottle,
red and white, ribbon, wax seal. All those were there.

Only recently have I developed a sweet tooth (except
chocolate and custard); for me another savory would
be preferable to anything artificially sweetened.
I've pretty much always had a sweet tooth, but have learned to avoid the artificials as not being beneficial to me, so would tend to also prefer savory to artificial sweet...

Adulterated sugar can be okay, but it is never
    preferable to the real thing.

An interesting and enviable (perhaps) life.
More akin to yours than it is to mine... :) I do, regularly, get the feeling that I'm the hen that hatched a duckling... (G)
    Or an eagle.
That could be a possibility, too....

Apparently in the world of boats/ships, the certifications are pretty
much standardized across the world, wherever you go to get them... He's favored South Africa for its relative inexpensiveness and a good balance
    of theoretical and practical instruction...

There must be whispers among the ranks as to where
the best deal on the best instruction would be.

Though the British expats are having a really tough
time of it and are beginning to cause a ruckus. Ian
and Jacquie I believe have French nationality now, so
    they're not sweating as much.
That's fortunate... RJ finally gave up on pursuing that (at least for
now) because it was just dragging on forever, spinning wheels, and
costing ever more money for no progress....

It might be easier to find a marginal EU country
like Slovenia and just pay a modest bribe.

MMMMM----- Recipe via Meal-Master (tm) v7.07

Title: Drop Noodles - Zlicni Rezanci
    Categories: Slovenian, Pasta
    Servings: 6

    1 Egg
    1/2 ts Salt
    2 tb Water
    1/4 c Flour

DIRECTIONS Beat egg well and add salt and water. Add flour and beat well
    to
make a batter that can be dropped from a teaspoon into boiling broth.
    Simmer for 10 minutes.

VARIATIONS Grandma will sometimes lightly fry these with butter and
    combine
with green beans. She also uses these when making soup. Be sure to reduce
the heat to a simmer when cooking or the noodles will break up.

Not sure I have seen the bottle, at least to know... but I hear you
saying it isn't all that easy to tell... other than the general if it's
too good to be true it probably isn't....

    Indeed.

I mentioned that to him yesterday, and he laughed and said that was
    pretty accurate.... (G)

Apparently he's making some progress in Turkey.... especially with
having now a Turkish family to be part of....
