More and more items are displaying their country of origin
but No Name Noodles isn't one of them.
So ... the question is what the least desirable country
of origin would be. I vote for China.
My guess would be China too.

    First on everybody's hate-but-need list.

corn oil / I was surprised at just how corny the bouquet was.
So that makes me suspicious on behalf of the allergics.
But the issue seems to be with proteins, not aromatic oils.

A quick scan of the Internet shows that there is
general suspicion of the oil as well - though most
of the sites seem somewhat fringey.

macrobiotic diet / I have never felt so alive. This picture was
taken just a week> before I ended up in the hospital."
So was he bizarrely innocent, or did he have a deliciously
    ironic sense of humor?
I'm really not sure. That guy has sampled every wacky religious
cult, fad diet and alternative medicine scam in an endless pursuit of
some undefinable state of enlightenment or self-actualization. Even
today he is still doing that; the last time I spoke to him he was
going on about how his latest spiritual Master was helping him get
in alignment with the universe's harmonics (for a fee of course.)

Did anything seem to have worked? And if so, why didn't
    he stick with it?

drought in India affecting the cardamom
It's news that we are not getting much of here, but the cities
of India are getting desperately short of water.
It's well documented in the media I choose to read. The cardamom
issue was just a small side bar.

Our media don't seem to care, basically.

South Asian and Somali housewives were grabbing them 3
    at a time
I'm figuring that those housewives have their finger on
    the pulses of commerce anyway.
And recent immigrants follow the news from back home closely.

    As well they might.

    Screaming Gorge of Eternal Ecstasy
When I was a uni freshman in res we called that kind of drink "panty remover".

    I read that as p a r i t y remover and wondered
what it had to do with nuclear physics.

Title: Bariis Iskukaris - Spiced Somali Rice
It is very similar to East African pilau rice, however this dish
generally uses meat broth to add more flavor.

It's a cousin of Spanish rice and perhaps a second
    cousin of biryani.

... Canadian: I use all three spices, Salt, Pepper and Ketchup.

Sort of like upstate New Yorkers and northern New Englanders.

    Title: Maine Fish Chowder
Categories: Soups, One dish, Fish, Main dish, solly
    Servings: 4

    3/16 lb Salt Pork, diced
    2 2/3 c Diced raw Potatoes
    3 x Med Onions, peeled & sliced
    1
    1/3 ts Salt

Fry salt pork to render all fat in a heavy kettle and then remove. Add
potatoes, onions, and 1/2 teaspoon salt. Cover with hot water and cook
over medium heat, covered, 15 minutes, until potatoes are just tender. Do
    not overcook.
Meanwhile, cut fish into large chunks and put into another saucepan. Add
boiling water to cover and 1 1/2 teaspoons salt. Cook slowly, covered,
until fish is fork tender, about 15 minutes. Remove from heat.
Strain and reserve liquid. Remove any bones from fish. Add fish and
strained liquid to potato-onion mixture. Pour in milk and leave on stove
long enough to heat through, about 5 minutes. Mix in butter and pepper.
Serve at once. Serves 4 to 6.
