From MICHAEL LOO@1:123/140 to NANCY BACKUS on Tuesday, July 16, 2019 08:43:42
I tried to find some justification for the behaviors
of both the rich patrons and the in-the-trenches
musicians and found only for the latter. There's no
justification ever for sexual conduct without informed
consent. The rules of consent might want to be
revisited at some point, but not here and now.
There's no justification for the powerful taking advantage of others...

Nohow. But there are cases where the power relationship
is nonexistent or irrelevant or even paradoxically
turned about. For now, an 18 or whatever age of consent
is a workable rule, but refinement is possible.

The latest yummy, possibly reported on here before,
is chocolate milk or hot chocolate made with nondairy
creamer. If I add enough cocoa, it can be quite okay.
Chocolate (especally dark) can cover quite a lot.... :)

    Indeed.

Real milk has taste variations, too, largely from the
feed used by the dairy but also (some say) from the
    breed of the cows.
That is true.... and also from when the cow is freshening... We usually taste all those variations, too...
    I don't ... any more.
Since you aren't drinking the milk....

    Indeed.

The next trip into town, I did take them back, and they did give me my money back, even on the opened bottle.... so don't need to rehome
them... If you want the experiment for the picnic, I could buy a bottle for the purpose... (G)
    No need.
I somehow expected that response... (G) Just for my information, I
checked out the labels on the Wegmans sweetened sparkling water.... I
used to get them for MJ, and thought I'd remembered some significant difference in labeling... At first, I didn't even find them, but turned
out they'd been moved to a less prominent spot... I was correct, the sweetened (artificially) water was labeled as Diet on the front label...

    Good old Wegmans.

and it turns out that aspartame is the sweetener there.... :) In the

I'm coming to the conclusion that artificial sweeteners,
including the natural artificial sweeteners, are mostly
    equivalent and exclusively bad.

meantime, Wegmans introduced 3 new flavors for the unsweetened line...
and all three have met with approval in our household... (which at the
moment also includes the kid)... mango lime, lemon lime and ginger...

That's adventuresome. Speaking of which, why is he
back, rather than risking life and limb in someplace
    interesting like Turkey?

By the way, I just tasted Zevia tonic water,
Put it this way, perhaps those who can't tell or
don't mind the difference are to be envied.
    I hear you... :)

It's that too fine a discrimination is constricting
    and possibly maladaptive.

he became the opposite of Kreisler, who would play
as if saying, "Here's a beautiful tune", whereas
Heifetz would demand, "You! Listen to this!"
I suppose both ways have their place.... I generally prefer the former, though....
It's hard to get both, and since the advent of
recordings, the latter, or at least styles that
gravitate toward the latter, have become prevalent.
There should be somewhat of a middle ground, though, I'd hope... :)

But as in other endeavors, it's the extremes that get
    the attention. There are plenty of middle grounders;
some do okay and others do not.

and Peabody, among other places. Ronny was a cellist whom
I used to work with but who decided not to go on in music
    - he ended up a professor at the K-School and is head of
some kind of institute at Harvard.
Does he (Ronny) still play for his own enjoyment...?
So far as I know, but I haven't seen him in years.
Ah... One could hope, though... :)

    Indeed.

... All you need is love. But a little chocolate now and then
    doesn't hurt
Chocolate is less fickle, as well.
    Generally... ;)
    Well, there is milk chocolate.
Is that fickle, though, on the part of the chocolate or of the
    eater... (G)

    Good old Wegmans.

    I've been totally spoiled.... ;)

and it turns out that aspartame is the sweetener there.... :)
I'm coming to the conclusion that artificial sweeteners,

I've likewise been coming to that conclusion...

In the meantime, Wegmans introduced 3 new flavors for the unsweetened line... and all three have met with approval in our household...
(which at the moment also includes the kid)... mango lime, lemon lime
    and ginger...
That's adventuresome. Speaking of which, why is he
back, rather than risking life and limb in someplace
    interesting like Turkey?

When he left, somewhat precipitously, almost 4 years ago, he left quite
a bit of unfinished business, expecting to be back the next year to take
care of it all... With one thing and another, it took a lot longer to
wend his way back home... And in the meantime, he's decided to get back
on track for his boat/ship career... So he's back home for a few months
to try to wrap up more of his loose ends here, and to get some sort of
work here (either in the North Country or in Rochester, most likely the
former) to earn the rest of the money he needs for the ocean-going
captain's course he is taking in South Africa beginning in January...
One can make enough lira in Turkey to live on, but the lira is worth practically nothing anywhere else.... so no good for paying for this
course... he seems to be able to make life interesting for himself no
    matter where he is.... (G)
