AA2845 SAN ORD 2253 0456 738 9D
was UA1010 SAN ORD 2230 0425 320 1F
I was on my way to the airport but checked an e-mail
telling me I'd had been hit with a 9 1/2 hour delay,
getting me into Chicago at 2 something, and United
had cleverly not rescheduled me on my 0600 connection;
so off to the airport anyway, where I prevailed on
them to rebook me on an American flight which would
just let me make my original connection if all went
well. So I retreated to the American club, where I
apprised Lilli of my plan B, and we figured to meet
at LaGuardia next morning (we don't fly together
much these days, as I am Star and she's OneWorld).
After United got me the reservation, I got me a
premium economy seat, which offered pleasant service
and a Woodford on the rocks, which came as a double.
Unfortunately, the guy in the middle, though pleasant
enough, was kind of big and flopped over into my space,
so I tended to flop over into the aisle and kept
getting knocked so didn't get but a couple hours' sleep.
As I was transferring between mortal enemies who have
staked out their territories at the opposite ends of
ORD, I alit way at the end of the H concourse with my
connection way at the end of the B concourse - a literal
mile, close to 5500 feet.
Being in somewhat better shape than last year, I
got there with 10 minutes to spare.
UA2140 ORD LGA 0600 0909 320 3A was 3F
For some reason I lost my original seat but was given
one almost equivalent.
Another full flight, but the very good FAs found room
for pretty much everyone's bags, squishing more into
the first-class overheads than I thought possible.
This was about minimum length for a breakfast flight,
so catering offered an egg sandwich or fruit plate
with oatmeal; I decided to go for the latter, which
consisted of grapefruit (good), grapes (bad), orange
wheels (good), and pineapple (good). The cereal was
cold-brewed pinhead oatmeal in coconut milk with mango
bits - not a terrible idea; the execution would have
been okay if not for the fact that the dish was ice-cold
and the mango tasted ike cough medicine only sour. On
the side Chobani mixed-berry yogurt: I figured I'd need
some protein to balance the carbs, but this probably
didn't do that great of a job, being loaded with sugar as
it must have been; too bad too that it tasted like crap.
The plan was for me to go to her gate and wait for an
hour, but I called for the shuttle bus to D (the terminal
has 4 piers connected only outside security or by bus).
I waited about half an hour and then gave up, making my
way to the United Club outside security (as of this week
there is a new club inside security) to camp out.
Presently Lilli showed up, and instead of paging me, they
let her come in. So we planned our day and went off to
the bus stop.
