  • feature request - kill binkd by flag

    Speaking as an open source developer, this kind of whiny bullshit entitlement that the devs somehow owe you something only drives them away, making it less likely your request will ever be responded to.

    Please define for me "whiny bullshit". Somehow I don't quite understand, given that I am a developer of a major Fido mailer, now a ZC, and volunteer a quite extraordinary amount of my time, services and equipment... at no cost.

    My knowledge about daemonized programs with windows and dos/dos32 is very low, but isn't there something like systemd or inetd on windows systems as well, as it is with BSD?

    This feature was implemented earlier. My binkleyXE tasks going down with the 'flag-file' since 1994.
    I'm need this feature for binkd now, because I changed my mailbox-computer to a
    very modern platform with a 4core prozessor and all energy saving features.
    The kernel of Ecomstation2/ArcaOS5 does support this all, put the tools for closing down daemonized programs (pkill.exe/go.exe/kill.exe) don't work properly with the smp-kernel.

    No. There are programs and ways to manage tasks that are running, but, none that I could see that would ensure that BinkD shuts down "cleanly".
